7 Weird Things That Make You More Attractive Online

kissing computer Science says these things are going to score you a date online.

Meeting a mate online is not easy. At all. And anyone who's used ever a dating app can tell you a horror story or three. Your straightforward and basic account profile won't catch potential partners' eyes – instead, it'll turn them off.

What matters? Well, according to statistics, it's a mix of things we can't control, how we talk about ourselves and what we show off. It can be everything from race to your favorite sport. And while appearances matter more than ever to the online world, so does vocab ... and where you take your profile picture.

Here's what science says will get you in the door — and staying there.

1. Being Multiracial
Researchers from the American Sociological Association found that three multiracial groups were on the receiving end of what they’re calling the "bonus effect." Researchers found that some white-minority multicultural daters (Asian-white women, white Asian-white and Hispanic-white men) are preferred over white and non-white daters. The reason? They pointed out that daters may be influenced by how the media portrays mixed-race people as exotic and sexually appealing.

2. Using These Buzzwords To Describe Yourself
After studying 12,000 eHarmony profiles, dating experts found that there are certain words that are guaranteed to attract the opposite sex (sorry, but DTF didn’t make the list.) Instead, the researchers found that women who used words like "ambitious," "sweet" and "thoughtful" were more often messaged by interested men, while girls went after guys who used words like "passionate," "physically fit," "ambitious" and "perceptive" to describe themselves.

3. Taking Your Profile Picture Outside— If You're A Guy
A study by Zoosk found that male users who took a non-selfie outside and used it as their profile picture had a 19 percent increase in messages. Apparently, potential partners want to see men doing stereotypically rugged and manly things.

But the same doesn't apply for women, unfortunately. The Zoosk study found that when women took to the Great Outdoors, they saw a 40 percent decrease in messages from potential suitors.

4. Having White Teeth
Make sure you’re brushing! When Market Tools Inc. surveyed 5,481 singles aged 21 and older, they found that 58 percent of men rated "teeth" as a must-have, while 71 percent of women rated perfectly pearly whites as a must-have. Good hygiene goes a long way.

5. Showing Off — And Describing — Your Body
While we'd love to say that it's who you are and not how you look that matters, it's impossible to ignore the fact that it does matter — especially when you're online dating. According to infographics from Wired, the guys aren't interested in your selfies that only show off your pretty face. Men rated the stomach as the most important feature to them in a woman's profile picture. Not too far behind were her butt and legs. Research from a Plenty of Fish internal study found that women, aged 25 to 35, that categorized themselves as "thin" in their profiles were most likely to receive more messages than anyone else on the site. When women categorized themselves as "athletic," they were second most likely to meet a mate. Women who dubbed themselves "average" were third most likely to be messaged.

When women declined to note what their body type looked like, they saw the most negative effect on the number of messages they received. Unsurprisingly, the results showed that men who listed themselves as "athletic" on their profile were most desirable, but it didn’t have nearly as close to the same effect on date requests as body type did for women.

6. An Interest In Surfing And Yoga
Which extracurricular activities make you more attractive? According to Wired, out of 1,000 possible sporting activities, surfing was the top sport that boosted appeal for men. As for the most attractive activity a woman can do? Yoga.

7. Including The Nose In An Emoticon
When you're messaging with someone, don't be afraid to use an emoticon, says a study by online dating site Zoosk. And when you do, don't forget the nose since :-) gets 13 percent more positive responses while : ) is 66 percent more likely to get you ignored. Hey, I guess people appreciate the small details.

Opinions needed, me vs. older man! am i reading into things a bit much>..

Love and Relationship Advice Forum

Hi all,
New to this forum and just looking for other peoples opinions on a certain lil subject??!!

Im single 26 yr old female, working in a retail environment, supervisory role (supermarket to be precise) job is a job right?!! lol.
Basically I am just looking for advice on how to work this older guy out, or what to make of him?
The gentleman in question is a manager of a different section, approx. 43/44 years old, smart and up together, although very serious in his duties. Im going to be upfront and not going to lie, I AM attracted to him. Bit of a crush you could say, haha.

To put this straightforward other staff members find him 50/50 to get along with, I have heard various rumours that he can be very abrupt at times and sometimes rude, he is serious with workloads and most of the younger generation of people who work under him have at some time or another been upset by him. calling him an a-hole lol, Although most seem to think its a "stress" thing and not totally intentional. His interaction with me is totally different, its rather odd. (or so I seem to think)
From what I can gather, and what iv observed, he is generally quite serious with other people, his own staff, it seems priority is spent dishing out orders or chasing people up...pushing them to bang out the workload. serious face with the odd laugh or smile.

I find him hard to work out, He seems to treat "me" very nicely, although I do not work under him. always a warm greeting when passing, and a good atmosphere when we are in each others space. He tends to show a lot of facial feature movement if we catch eyes, and say hello, for instance upon first greeting/passing in the morning his face kind of just widens,...hard to explain, the eyebrows raise a fair bit and the greeting has oomph,.. if I generally stop to chat he always has time for me and seems jolly whenever I talk to him, if not a bit giggly which is quite funny. He seems to laugh a lot around me or loud giggles, almost schoolboy-ish....by nature I am very mature and quite humourous, with fast wit, but he does seem to be quite loud with it if I ever seem to make him laugh, Its almost like a fast nervous giggle, his eyes widen a lot and he walks off laughing 9 times out of 10. sometimes blushing ever so slightly.
Its quite confusing to hear what other people say about this guy and yet experience something totally different, from gut feeling I can tell he is slightly nervous around me, although I am not loud or brash by nature, I get on with everyone at work and am generally liked all round. (bigging myself up here haha) so not quite sure why he reacts that way as I am definitely not threatening or horrible or moody in any way to cause any kind of nervousness?

Oddly he can be quiet at times, for instance if I have to enter a side office fetching replenishisment stock, and he is sat at a computer, he will be deadly silent, he knows its me in the office as I can see him briefly eye up who's just come in, but sometimes not a word is said, its like awkward silence, however if I instigate conversation, he will always chat and respond freely, with expression tending to swing the chair round to face me directly where I am stood. Its almost like if we are alone he finds it awkward and seems nervous. Not so long ago I had issues at work, stress all round, you know what its like, and with the lead up to xmas, everybody was feeling it, I was sat in our works dining area with another girl and he came and sat next to me, at the time we had been discussing all our issues and so on so forth, he briefly joined in the conversation and whilst eating his curry told me if I ever needed someone to chat to he was there. Again odd, as iv heard hes not too compassionate with his own staff.
This week made me feel a bit like whaaaat?? He was sat at the table with a coffee, opposite another staff member, I came and sat about 2 chairs down from him and instantly cracked a funny about how pissed off we all looked, they both laughed and nodded in agreement, at that point I casually started drinking my drink, and almost instantly he was mumbling to himself "whats this", and kind of started proof reading this news post stand on the table which had been there for like a month.... He seemed fidgety, like he didn't know what to do with himself, ..i wonder whether I make him feel that way I don't know?
Me and the other girl were chatting about relationships etc and we started having a joke about girls with older older men, saying why, etc, to which I pointed out quickly that hey my ex was 47 and age was just a number, etc etc but don't get all the 80 yr old business with young girls. when I mentioned about my ex he literally arched his brows right up as if it had shocked him and kind of cocked his head, but then went silent. lol Upon general conversation on another break (he had finished work and was sat in front of tv with coffee all quiet) I made enquiry about whether he had overtime on his section to which we got talking, and I mentioned I was going to drop my hours at work as it was getting too much hassle, i sat with him and he seemed to show a compassionate concern about whether I was doing the right thing....we chatted nicely for around 10-15mins although he just seemed to stare with arched eyebrows and hand on his chin...and seemed to hold his breath when I was explaining things and to be honest didn't really know what to advise me but kept saying I needed to def be sure of what I was doing..and asked if things were bad at home....blah blah blah and then it was time for me to go back to my shift.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I feel that maybe he could be attracted to me in some way, but not sure whether im just reading into it a bit? He has confidentially spoken to me about his stress levels before as we were in a general discussion because I had been stressed and didn't know how to deal with it except walk away and lock myself in a room to calm down lol. I am very attracted to him, but do not put myself in his face or predominantly flirt with him, I just treat him like I do the other staff, always a smile, always a laugh, always a joke, and he always responds positively.
For someone so serious in his duties he just seems to treat me so different to anyone else, even if hes in a mood and I can see it from afar (or hear it from others) whenever I then say hi or generally talk to him, hes very enthusiastic and nice to me, and looks,...well...happy...could be a front I don't know.

Is there a good way to break silences?

For the record he is married. touchy touchy subject I know, and not really my style to get involved with....

Any ideas or comments about all this??? Thanks in advance

Married? Seriously, if you have to ask for advice on this topic then you're definitely not mature enough to handle an adult relationship.
Sorry for any confusion, I was actually asking on opinions as to whether the general feel is that this guy may really like me due to how he reacts/responds to me. not on whether I should try and get involved.
If what you say is true, then yes. He likes you.

I find it so hilarious how little women catch on to our hints, and we catch women's hints so little. So funny.

Also, if you aren't worried about whether you should try to get involved or not, then why bother worrying whether he likes you or not? lol. :P

I guess I just wanted to hear others thoughts as I am not always sure how to act around this fella, those awkward moments of silence and not knowing what to say when you are in a work environment, I don't want to make him feel uncomfortable around me, if the general feel is that he likes me, work situations can be difficult when you have to interact with someone and there is at times an odd silent atmosphere. I am generally a shy and nervous person so words don't always come out easy. Its kind of ice breaking, and knowing how to respond to his actions as I don't want it to be awkward whenever we are in each others company....after all it IS a professional environment we work in, and quite often due to job role, I do have to interact with him. I want things to be easy between us, and just do not understand his nervousness around me as it then makes me nervous to approach him when I have to. I know it prob sounds a bit stupid, but its that kinda anxiety thing. He is not like this with other people which is just odd.
Any suggestions on how to approach this? any hints or tips? Many thanks.
Well, don't act like anything around him. Be cordial, be professional, talk to him about the things you have to talk to him about and just move on with your day. If you aren't interested in a workplace romance, then you'll simply need to get over the fact that you know he likes you.

I mean, maybe he is only giving you special treatment because you're another boss and do not work underneath him? That could be why he acts differently toward you, but is a jerk to others. . . you did say you were in a supervisory role. So, try to jes' pawn his actions off on that and get over your anxiety.

And I dunno. It kinda sounds like you like him but are afraid to like him because of the potential issues that may arise. Maybe I'm wrong?

Is he interested in me? He's always texting and saying certain things to me...

Hi,
So recently, a guy I'm very good friends with (and have known for a while) has been texting me frequently and recently, I've noticed his texts have been a lot more daring, and a lot of people would interpret them as flirting. He also includes several kisses on each text; now I know that might not mean anything, but several of my friends and even this guy never usually puts kisses on texts to just friends.

I was wondering if this is him trying to say he's interested in me? We regularly keep in contact and often hug, and he supported me when I've been down. He always wants to help me out if he can

An example would be that we were joking that he had declared war on me, so I said I'd kick him. His reply was that he'd pin me down, which I just put down to him being him. When I said that I'd bite if I had to, his reply was that he'd like it, which I didn't quite know what to make of. I do also know now that he split up with his girlfriend a while ago; just after when he'd met and got to know me.

I just don't know what to think; I do like him quite a lot, and he has been protective of me when he has seen others try it on with me - I think I'm attracted to him a lot, and don't know what to do. I don't want to ruin our friendship, but to me it feels like we more than best friends, but not quite there as neither of us has said anything more than what I'm sure we're doing now, which is flirting.

I don't know what to do! Is he interested at all in me? I don't have much experience with guys, as although I've been asked out by several different people, none of them I've been attracted to so I've turned them down (many of them were people I saw as only friends).

I'm so confused...

The Top 7 Things You Must Talk About Before Getting Married

what to talk about before marriage Do you agree on money, kids, work, etc.? Sit down and discuss these seven topics before you both say 'I do.'

Being in love is a wonderful feeling, but staying in love is a wonderful skill. Every couple needs to develop the ability to talk about everything. You may think you know your spouse-to-be, there may be many things you folks have not discussed before marriage. Do it now so you can create that rewarding relationship!

Here are the top seven topics you should discuss before tying the knot:

More from YourTango: Take Our 'Dating In The Digital Age' Survey & Enter To Win $100!

1. Money: How will you both handle money? Who will pay bills, save, plan for spending and allocate fun money? Will you follow a budget? Is it often a good idea? How much should be saved? If one of us makes more does that mean he/she gets to control more of the money? Will you have a common "pot" or divided accounts? What is a necessity and what is a luxury (going out to eat, seeing a movie, cable, vacations, Starbucks, etc.)? How are debts or assets brought into the marriage and then viewed? Money is a big topic couples gloss over and then regret, and it is one of the top reasons couples give for getting divorced!

2. Kids: Do you both want kids at some point? Do we both agree on when, how many, and how we'll take care of them? What will be your parenting style? Are you able to work as a team and agree to present a united front? What should you do if that isn't happening? How will children be disciplined? Kids are a blessing, but definitely a stress-inducer for relationships—plan accordingly.

3. Career: How will work be negotiated? Will both of you work? How many hours a week? Will it be okay for one of you not to work and under what circumstances? If one of you were to be offered a career opportunity in a location far from the other's family, are you prepared to move? How do your levels of ambition match or differ? Are you okay with them being different? If they match, does it cause competition and how do you handle that in the long term? Work is usually a big part of your life (taking up a third of a day) so it is important you both understand how it plays out in your future lives together.

4. Free Time: What do you enjoy doing together and apart? How have you developed "play" and free time? What are the expectations about how you'll spend free time once married? How much time will you each have together, alone or with your own friends? Do you respect each other's friends? How will you divide chores? How much free time will be devoted to chores? What does each of you dread or like to do as chores? What chores are important to each of you? After work, your free time and chores impact your relationship time greatly. It is important to have a balance in both. Keep reading...

Listen, Guys: 5 Things Women Wish You Didn't Do In Relationships

what women want in relationships Another unromantic date night. A breakup is imminent if you don't correct these issues in your relationship!

Men, there are certain things you do that we women really wish you wouldn't do, you know, those bad habits. Want to know what they are? Well, I've got the list of the most talked about ones.

1. You always choose "guy time" with your buddies over her. Now, I understand that sometimes we all need a break and to get that break our friends are the first place we go to. But if you are with them more than your woman, she will probably start to feel neglected and resent you for it.

More from YourTango: Take Our 'Dating In The Digital Age' Survey & Enter To Win $100!

2. You've gotten a little too comfortable with her. I understand that comfort is good, but if you gain weight and don't get dressed up to go out with your lady, this will irritate her and make her question if she really wants to be with you. Of course, this goes both ways for women and men.

More from YourTango: Never Go To The Opposite Sex For Relationship Advice.

3. You aren't romantic enough. Every woman loves surprises so you need to keep that up regardless of how long you've been in a relationship her. A bouqet of flowers, a handwritten card or even cooking dinner for her can do wonders to make her feel appreciated! Even a massage when she has had a long day would help her out! Keep reading...

10 Things You Should Never Lie To Him About

couple fighting on bed One thing never to lie about? Your marriage goals. One guy reveals the white lies that hurt.

A little white lie never hurts, right? Well, not exactly.

Sometimes we tell little lies because we don't want to hurt our partner's feelings, but when it comes to dating, honesty is important. And, there's certain things we usually fib about — like how many people we've had sex with or how we really feel about his inner circle — that can be even more hurtful to our guys and our relationships.

'Data, A Love Story': 6 Things Online Daters Should Know [EXPERT]

ProConnect Subscribe to Experts Blog By Gina Stewart. Posted on Apr 3rd 2013.

online dating Online dating doesn't necessarily mean that love is a mouse click away. Amy Webb's romantic memoir has several good lessons for online daters.

I just read Amy Webb's online dating memoir Data, A Love Story: How I Gamed Online To Meet My Match. In short, Webb is a frustrated singleton who's tired of a slew of bad online dates. She gets the idea to pose as her ideal man to get an understanding of how females react to him and learn how to reposition her own profile to gain this type of man's attention.

Spoiler alert: Her efforts work out for her and she meets her dream guy via online dating. I loved Webb's story and there were some very universal truths to it for anyone looking to increase their odds of finding love via online dating. There were some things that were specific to Webb's story though (she acknowledges this as well), as well as a few points that I disagree with her on as a professional online dating coach.

More from YourTango: Was that...? Seeing Someone You Know on an Online Dating Site

1. Webb's story revolved around attracting a man specific to her. Webb realized the folly of her initial online dating attempt. She took for granted how men would respond to her profile and she wrote it like a resume. This is a point I scream from the mountain tops to my readers: Your profile needs to be positioned to attract the type of person you are interested in. This is marketing; consider your audience and how your audience interprets what you say. When she rewrote her profile and chose pictures, she made sure to keep in mind the man she was trying to attract. Her type of man may not be your type, so put your audience first.

2. Webb did not initiate contact as a "man". While posing as her own dream man, Webb only responded to females who contacted "him" first. This doesn't necessarily replicate the way men online date. Most men are initiators in online dating because they have to be (probably because most men in online dating aren't fictional dream boats). Therefore, her pool of women she decides to base her stats and advice on were only women who initiated, which isn't the majority of women or even the most successful online women daters.

Furthermore, we can't forget Webb is a woman. She can't say that she understood what men would be attracted to in a female, she only knew what she would be attracted to in a female. But she's a she, so does that help other females? Ultimately what she did helped her a attract a man, there's no contest about that. But I'd like to take her points a step further.

I do online dating with men, speaking to them and learning what makes them pursue one woman over another. What Webb got right are the importance of attractive pictures and seeming friendly. What she doesn't know is the importance of the written profile to getting contacted by men.

More from YourTango: Why Dudes Love Online Dating [EXPERT]

3. Correlation does not necessarily equal causation. Webb found a ton of very important data and changed her profile and behaviors to reflect the information she learned. Ultimately, Webb also met her dream man and married him. While Webb's story has a happy ending, it is important not to confuse her tactics with being a roadmap to love. What is important is that she increased her chances of finding the right guy. There is no telling which factors contributed to helping her meet her husband. The best you can do is position yourself in the most advantageous way possible. Keep reading ...

5 Things You Shouldn't Reject A Guy Over [EXPERT]

5 Things You Shouldn't Reject A Guy Over [EXPERT] Not everything has to be a deal breaker. You may want to rethink judging him for his less-than-cool profession or lack of style.

By Arnie Singer for GalTime.com

I firmly believe that a woman should not feel obligated to date every guy sent her way just because she might feel negative about her single status or "anxious" to get into a relationship. When it comes to finding that ideal significant other, we all have our list of desired traits along with the drop-dead deal breakers that we refuse to compromise on. Also, going out on too many bad dates will drain you of your positive energy, which is so vital to dating success.

More from YourTango: How Sex Can Make You More Powerful [EXPERT]

Some women go a bit overboard in the rejection department and write off potential matches for reasons that I believe are short-sighted and irrelevant to a happy relationship. Remember, your goal is to be in a committed, happy relationship that will lead to marriage. So here are some things that I believe you should not reject a guy over.

1. His clothing. On two separate occasions, I tried to set up women with men I suggested because they didn't like the way they dressed. They felt the men weren't "sharp" or cool enough for them. Admittedly, they were clueless in the clothing department, but I told these women that I thought they were making a big mistake by rejecting these men who were both highly intelligent, successful professionals and really nice guys — only based on their style (or lack thereof).

I guess living in big cities filled with metrosexual, GQ-reading men on the cutting edge of fashion trends can distort the reality that lots of great men are ignorant when it comes to style. They either don't know or don't care, so they continue to dress like college frat boys or Revenge of the Nerds extras. I can totally see how this can be a turn off to women who put so much effort into looking their best.

But here's the reason why it shouldn't matter: Most men will gladly upgrade their wardrobe for the right woman. Most men would love for a woman to take them shopping and help them pick out clothes. In fact, they probably wouldn't mind if you went shopping on your own and just brought them back stuff to wear. It's that simple.

In most areas you need to assume that a person will not change, and you must accept them as they are. Clothing style for men is not one of them. Once you're in a relationship, you can style your man. So don't reject a guy just because he can't figure out what to wear!

More from YourTango: Are You Good In Bed?

2. His home furnishing. Similar to tastes in clothing, most guys do not have the sense of style necessary to furnish an apartment or home that doesn't look like a college dorm room or Austin Powers' bachelor pad. That's where you come in, if you end up living in the same house. Keep that in mind and look past the design disaster to see the real man. Keep reading ...

7 Things You Didn't Know About St. Patrick's Day

couple celebrating St. Patrick's Day How will you be spending St. Paddy's Day with your loved one? Plus, how many tourists kiss the Blarney Stone every year?

St. Patrick's Day is this Sunday. We all know the holiday is observed on the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and is a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history.

But besides donning green, downing green pints of Guinness, and feasting on corned beef and cabbage, what do we really know about the Irish holiday? Here are seven facts you'll love learning about!

1. Did St. Patrick Start Leap Year Proposals?
You can thank St. Patrick for this Irish tradition. According to legend, St. Bridget complained that women were tired of waiting for marriage proposals, so she took matters into her own hands by proposing to St. Patrick. Still, that doesn't mean that the guys are buying into the hype. In one study, one in five men would rather run a mile than accept a proposal from their girlfriend on February 29.

2. Wedding bells Are Ringing
St. Patrick's Day is considered the luckiest day of the year to get married ... unless it falls on a Saturday. According to this Irish proverb, Saturday is the worst day of the week to get married: "Marry on Monday for wealth / Tuesday for health / Wednesday the best day of all / Thursday for losses / Friday for crosses / Saturday for no luck at all."

3. Oh, Baby!
About 650,000 American newborn babies have been named Patrick over the past 100 years. Were their parents perhaps inspired by their own St. Paddy's Day weddings?

4. Bottoms Up!
On any given day, 5.5 million pints of Guinness, the holiday's go-to brand of beer, are consumed worldwide. But on St. Patrick's Day, that number more than doubles to 13 million.

5. "Kiss me, I'm Irish!"
The Blarney Stone is reportedly kissed by up to 400,000 people a year, making us think that you're likely to catch more than just luck from this Irish tourist attraction.

6. Send Your Love
Mailing cards to loved ones isn't just a Valentines Day tradition. Hallmark sells anywhere from 8-15 million St. Patrick's Day-themed cards each year.

7. Day Trip, Anyone?
Did you know that there are seven places in the United States named Shamrock, the floral emblem of Ireland? Visiting any one of these Irish-inspired destinations would make for a great St. Paddy's Day date, don't you think?

Relationship Advice: 5 More Things Your Mom Never Told You

Relationship Advice for Women What did your mom forget to tell you about love? ... but you absolutely should know.

Last week, we gave you five things your mom forgot to tell you about love. Turns out, there's a few more things she forgot to mention.

Remember when your mom found your sex ed book and launched into a diatribe about how "heavy petting" (yes, that was a glossary term) is what led to your consummation? No, just me? Well, lucky you, readers. Either way, when it comes to dispensing knowledge on relationships, there are undoubtedly some things dear old mom left out. Hey, it's her job! Now don't tell her we told you, but here are our five more frontrunners:

More from YourTango: Who Is Pope Francis & What Does He Stand For?

1. Timing > Love
It's possible your mother imparted on you the infamous "timing is everything" wisdom, but it's more possible she opted for the far more optimistic: "love conquers all". The fact is, the first one is true, and the second one isn't. There will be people you'll love in your life, who'll also love you, but that doesn't mean they're the "forever" ones. That may be life's biggest lesson: love isn't always enough. And what's more frustrating, you can be extremely compatible with this person, and everything seems so easy like you've always heard it should be — but if someone's not ready to move forward, they just won't. It's like a boulder, you can't move it on your own and you'll exhaust yourself trying, not to mention waste your time. Still, there is a sliver lining: these same people serve a significant purpose in your life, and more importantly, help both shape your character as well as make you realize what you want and need in a partner.

2. Don't, Um, Suck In Bed
Well, my mom actually did tell me this, in a somewhat round about way, but it was so shocking I'm convinced this isn't normal. When I was in high school, she received a wedding invitation in the mail, and informed me the two people getting married were both virgins; then said this verbatim: "Can you imagine? Talk about missionary position forever." It's only now, more than 10 years later, I realize what she really meant was: don't be afraid to experiment a little before locking it down, and especially with your current significant other.

3. Sex Spells, They're A Thing
What is a sex spell, you ask? It's an unexplainable desire and pull towards someone you'd likely never even be in a serious relationship with, but you're both completely infatuated and bonded to despite little to no rational reason. This doesn't always have to equal great sex (though it almost always does), there's just a natural, almost unshakable attraction. And here's the real kicker your mother would never own up to: a true one can be harder to find, and at certain times in your life even more fulfilling, than love. Keep Reading ...

3 Things To Consider Before Sleeping With Your Boyfriend [EXPERT]

3 Things To Consider Before Sleeping With Your Boyfriend [EXPERT] How long can you wait? Before you hop in the sack, check out what the latest research has to say about premarital sex.

It's no surprise that most people engage in premarital sex, but one new study found that even if we look at surveys going back for decades, we see the same prevalence of the behavior.

More from YourTango: Dating & Drinking Etiquette: 4 Rules To Live By [EXPERT]

Very few people actually wait until marriage to have sex — less than 10%, according to Lawrence Finer, research director at the Guttmacher Institute. That's been going on since the 1950s, contrary to the common belief that couples were more chaste back then.

Yes, it's normal to have sex before marriage, meaning that almost everyone does it. After all, there are few things more tempting than the urge to make love with the new guy you're falling madly in love with. But is it healthy?

As with all great questions, the answer is: it depends. Here are the factors that make this normal behavior either healthy — or not — for you and your relationship.

1. Age at first sexual experience. A new study from the University of Texas at Austin suggests that individuals who have their first sexual experience later than average may have more satisfying romantic relationships in adulthood. According to the study, individuals who waited to have sex beyond age 19 reported less conflict, more enjoyment, and greater love and affection with their partners.

The younger you are when you have sex for the first time the less likely you are to have stable relationships later in life. Because teenage relationships are inherently unstable (how can you know who you want to be with for the rest of your life at age 16?), most of them break up, often abruptly. The resulting trauma tends to be lasting because you are not yet as emotionally resilient as you will be as an adult.

The other risk with teenage sex is learning unhealthy patterns of relating. Due to the immaturity of partners at that age, it's likely that you will ride the emotional roller coaster up and down with the drama of being "on" one week and "off" the next. This creates highs and lows not unlike the ones associated with drug use. Because the brain is still forming as a teenager, you can cement an impression that this is "normal" for relationships, causing you to seek partners later in life with whom you re-create that instability. Sometimes that leads to a syndrome called Love Addiction.

Last, but not least, young people tend to be less informed about sexual health, resulting in teen pregnancies and the transmission of STDs. The bottom line is this: do your best to put off being sexual until at least age nineteen, for the best overall life and relationship outcomes. Regardless of the age at which you begin having sex, the next piece of advice will help you make better decisions about your sexual relationships.

2. How long you date your partner before having sex. The longer you date before having sex, the more likely you will get to the stage of emotional commitment prior to being sexual. Studies show that the higher the level of commitment, the greater the overall relationship satisfaction. That finding is especially true for women.

10 Completely Stupid Things I've Done For Love

10 Completely Stupid Things I've Done For Love I invite you to laugh at my stupidity. Please tell me I'm not crazy and that you guys have done some ridic things too. Please?

I would love to think that I'm that "cool girl" who doesn't chase guys and act like an idiot when it comes to relationships. I'm not the "cool girl" though, I'm a total idiot. I have done some of the most ridiculous stuff for guys I had crushes on. I'm obviously not proud of these things, but all of them happened a long time ago and I'd like to think I'm smarter now.

I'd like to think that I wouldn't do these things again because I'm mature and just thinking back on some of them makes me cringe. How could I let someone treat me that way? I invite you to laugh at my stupidity. And please tell me I'm not crazy and that you guys have done some ridic things too. Please?
