...Just friends?

Love and Relationship Advice Forum

Basically we've been friends for a few months, and she's been in a long distance relationship for 2 years. I've seen a lot of signs that she likes me, for instance : Hugging, random touches on the arms/legs, playful slapping, smile very often, laugh at my jokes, staring and smiling at me for long periods of time, almost always standing next to me, texting me regulary asking me how I'm doing, worried about me, seemingly annoyed when I mention other girls, etc.
We have been hanging out (coffee, bars, movies, etc) always just us two, so don't really know her friends. She is very shy and hardly talks about herself. She is generally pretty quiet, even. I know all of this screams ''she wants you'', but it gets more complicated...
When I admitted my feelings for her she basically said that she couldn't promise me anything, that she couldnt leave her boyfriend like that after such a long time, and that however it wasn't a 'no' and that her feelings weren't deep enough. We kept meeting the same way as before, but although I do not have very deep feelings for her I do have some. She also told me I was her closest friend.

My main issue is: Does she only see me as a close friend? Do the signs that show attraction are only signs of close friendship? I cannot define whether she is attracted to me or if all the touching/flirting is a misunderstanding on my part, and this is just her way to let me know she likes me solely as a close friend. Is there some way I can tell the difference between both without direct confrontation?

Thank you for your time !

- She is in a relationship (Yes a LDR counts as a relationship).
- You confessed your feelings and she didn't say yes.
Now think deeply.

I hope this answers your questions.

Put like this it is pretty obvious yes, however what makes me wonder is that I know it isn't going too well with her boyfriend ( she basically told me that when he visited her it ''wasn't good'' and that it was ''because of her''). Also stating that she couldn't simply leave her boyfriend after 2 years clearly implied she was considering it imo.She never goes for guys without knowing them thoroughly before. She especially insisted on the ''I am not saying no'' part.
However I do know that could be wishful thinking - which is why I post here
Thanks for the answer !

I asked her to be friends, and I'm getting mixed signals. What does it mean?

Love and Relationship Advice Forum

I'm 25 and my ex is 20. We dated for 10 months and she became really distant with me due to talking to her ex and I believe some confusion in what she wants. She kind of made it clear by her distance and us not talking that she didn't want more from me. So I stopped contact. She came back apologizing and telling me she needed me in her life so we kind of started talking again...however the distance began to happen again and I knew I had to remove myself from the situation. It felt like an off-on thing, and I felt like I was just getting led on with my emotions so I gradually stopped asking what was wrong and what I meant to her and just kept my distance. She tried talking to me a few times, and seemed okay with us talking. She sent me a morning text which was kind of awkward cause I had not received one in 2 weeks....
I suggested being friends a few days ago, and I asked her if she was happy with that, and she said "I guess"...So I questioned that and she told me she didn't know what she felt. I told her to think about it. On her facebook she posts lyrics to a song that is about unrequited feelings and not knowing if your time has passed to tell the person what you feel. (i dont think is a coincidence)
I then talked to her a few days later asking her if she gave it any thought and she seems really distant....she told me she didn't know and that she was not in the mood to talk about it now because she was in a bad mood.
I am not sure entirely what is going on here....but she is really closed off.
Help?? I thought she wanted friends....but than she seems....off?
In my opinion she needs more time to figure out what she needs. So the only thing that you can do is to avoid her for a while.
But if you still have feelings for her, don't try to hide it. Talk to her for the very last time, tell her that you care about her and then stop contacting her. Let her make the next move.

I Found Real Love...Once I Stopped Listening To My Friends

real love Don't crowdsource your love life. Trust your gut. Other people's opinions used to influence me to a fault. Then I started trusting myself.

I met Dan at a bar in London, where I worked for a year after college. I crashed a private birthday party with my roommates, and we homed in on the free food table, where Dan was also stationed. He and I bonded over American-style sliders and our elicit presences — he didn’t know the birthday boy either — and he bought me three drinks before the night was through. Dan was shy, gentlemanly even, so although we soon became inseparable — meeting for walks in Kensington Park and pints after work — we danced in that limbo of more-than-friends but haven't-yet-kissed.

About two weeks after we'd met (and after about six non-dates), we joined some of my friends at a bar. One of them said, "Oh, I wondered why you're not dating him, but now I see ... he's balding." Then another chimed in to say she could never date someone shorter than she was. "We're not dating," I rushed to clarify. "We're just friends." That was it for Dan.

After a year, I left London to move to New York, and I met Dan to say goodbye. We did one of those holding-each-other hugs, and I felt such a pang of regret—we should have had something more than we did.

We live in a culture of crowdsourcing. I rarely buy a shirt without sending a pic to my stylish BFF and asking what she thinks. But putting back a piece of clothing because she reminds me that it's not my color or that the cut is wrong for my body is different from tossing aside a perfectly lovely guy, one I might really have something special with, based solely on a friend's commentary. For too long, when I considered whether to date someone, my inner voice said something like: "Well, I'm into him. But how will everyone else feel?" And it wasn't just Dan I missed out on.

There was Ethan, whom I jettisoned when I noticed my best friend rolling her eyes at his jokes. And Joe, who got the boot after a beach date that prompted my friend Rachel to wonder how I dealt with such a hairy back. Those guys might have ended up on the cutting room floor regardless of my friends' comments, but there were others, too, who deserved more of a shot.

When I moved to New York, I met Jonathan through a coworker. He was a little awkward, slightly goofy and nervous around me at first — but completely adorable and hilarious. Finally, one night after a few drinks at a party, it happened. Nostalgic '90s songs played, Jonathan and I danced, we kissed and we went home together.

The next weekend, he and I met up with my roommate and some friends from college. When he got up to use the restroom, one friend said off-handedly, "Jonathan looks like he’s 12. And he kind of acts like it too." The rest of them laughed as my heart sank. Later that week, I told Jonathan that I thought our hooking up was a mistake. When I met his gorgeous, funny, whip-smart girlfriend a few months later, I was kicking myself.

Why did I care so much about my friends' opinions? They certainly didn’t need my approval. I went out with Lisa and her boyfriend Colin, who was allergic to everything — he brought his own baggies of food to the restaurant. "That’s kind of weird," I said. Lisa barely noticed my comment. I remembered Tracy's last guy, who was 40 pounds overweight and earned the kind of insensitive nickname "Big Dave" from our friends. She took it in stride. So what was it that made me cling to every comment they made about my guys, to the point of ignoring my own instincts and sacrificing potential happiness?

Maybe it was because my whole life up to this time had been a series of external evaluations. How well did I do on this test, teacher? Was my essay good enough to get me into my dream college, admissions officer? Did I ace that interview and get the job, HR guy? I was used to being sized up and graded, and I was looking to external forces — my friends — to do the same for my potential boyfriends.

But Lisa and Tracy weren't looking to me or anyone else to tell them whether Allergic Colin and Big Dave were right for them; they were looking to themselves and trusting their own instincts. They were using an internal evaluation system. One that, pardon the hokiness, came from the heart. That felt appropriate.

I started to look at the bigger picture, and I realized that there was only one thing I wanted to know about my friends' partners: Do they make you happy? If the answer to that is yes, then I'll be the first to raise a glass at your wedding.

And I began to realize that my friends felt the same way. They didn't really care that Dan was short and balding or that Jonathan had an immature streak. Those were throwaway comments. But the way I reacted to them — by cringing and shying away from the guys — that showed my own insecurity and unhappiness. And that's what my friends disapproved of.

At first, my now-husband rubbed some people the wrong way. One friend told me she thought he interrupted a lot. Another said he seemed "too argumentative" for me. In the past, those comments might have ended us.

But when I met him, I knew: This is the guy. And when I couldn't stop smiling, my friends knew it too.

Does she like me as friends or more than friends?

Love and Relationship Advice Forum

There’s this girl I like and I feel she is showing me signs of liking me back but I’m not sure.

She has been giving me the following signs

Signs she likes me

I've noticed my crushes friends look at me a lot. A few of her good friends say hi to me too. I've also over heard them talking about me calling me popular once.

One time one of her good friends entered the classroom and my crush told her something. Her friend then asked me if I have a girlfriend and I said no. My crush smiled at me and looked back at her friend.

I've told her friend that my crush is my favourite. She told her what I said and she smiled at me.

She wanted to know if she was invited to and event I’m organising. I said yes and she smiled.

I told her I like girls from a certain country. She said she is not from the country. I corrected myself saying I like girls who live in the country I’m living in. After I said this she smiled.

She looks at me a lot and maybe also glances at me when talking to her friend in class.

Her shoulders face me in class (Usually occurs in class, when she is talking to her friends behind her, she turns so her shoulders are facing me and her head is facing her friends. Also as she is facing the front, her shoulders are still facing me)

No signs she doesn't like me

Confusing signs

I also saw her in the back of a car with two boys from my school at the front of the car. I’m not sure if I should be worried with the situation or if I shouldn’t worry about it. But I saw the car driving out of the road and I saw her turn her head towards me as I was walking on the footpath.

So do you think she likes me more than friends?

Me and my crush are 18.

Matchmaking Tips: How to Set Up Your Friends

love-o-matic Find an Expert

Been friends for years but I said I didn't like him back but I do. My biggest mistake

Hi I am here to get some help maybe if there is someone or maybe there is someone with a similar situation I could talk to.I guess I better start.

It's about me and my friend let's call him K. .
Me and K. have known eachother since summer of 2005. It actually was an incidental meeting xD He and his family moved opposite to our house.

Me and my friends were playing soccer outside and I saw his sister, she was shy but not to me because I met her the day before and was playing a little bit with her. ( she was about 3 or 4 years old) She wanted to play with me again, we needed people to play anyway because a few weeks ago friends from us (they were brothers) moved away and the little girl with her family moved in.

My friends asked me to ask the little girl if her brothers would like to play with us, just for fun.

I did it, and after a while they came outside. One who was like 4 years older than me, another one who was probably 7 or 8 and K. who was a year older than me.

We played till lunchtime then everyone went home. Me and him were the first to return to play soccer again, so we sat down and started talking for about 20- 30 minutes.

After that he joined a sports club were I was and our friendship began.

Our friendship was differend than all my others, a good different I think xD

Except sometimes it was like a love and hate relationship. We went from talking and seeing eachother everyday for 4-5 months to not talking at all for 2 or 3 months. But neither of us knew the reasons at the end or we thought it was a stupid reason and it couldn't be it because it was a small one. We then forgot about it and acted like it never happened.

2009 he had to go to another school which is at the same street like ours but has another focus you could say...

Anyway in the same year I figured out that I am a Lesbian well I thought so. I never thought about any guy except him but back then I thought it was just a friends thing. ( Oh how wrong was I :D )

About 6 Months later I wasn't that sure anymore. I started to notice guys and slowly espacially K.
So I just called myself Bi. I couldn't tell anyone anyway because I live where people "hate" homosexual people. Sadly my brother found out, but that's another story.

In Apri or May '10 I started to talk to K. again because since he left we almost never did.
August I got to the same school he went we both are in 10th grade. He was supposed to be in grade 11 but he had to repeat the year.

On the first day he was showing me around and we spend the breaks together. (15min, 15min, and once a week + 45 min & we were waiting for the bus together)
When we were standing outside I asked him why we didn't talk last year. He said that he didn't want to be near me, I felt bad but he said he needed time to himself but he does not want to stop talking to me again because he missed me.

Later on we made promise to eachother to never go back to our old ways and just stop talking because we are friends and friends aren't weird to eachother. I know it was weird but we were children back then ( 16 and he 17).
It went really good till December 2010. I think it was the 17th when we were at school and our school had problems with the heater because of the cold and snow. At 10 am we were send home but the next bus would only drive home at 12.

So we went to his grandparents apartment. I met them before so it wasn't weird at all. But the thing is that everyone always thought we were a couple so did they. We spend about 40 min explaining that we aren't, when we finally did his aunt came by and it started all again xD

When we decided to go we said our goodbyes and his grandma said something like "I hope that you and your gf will visit soon again and stop lying about not beeing in love" oO

When we were walking I god alot of compliments and how I lost so much weight ( I was always thin but something happened that I gained aloot of weight. In about a month I lost 15 Kg (35lbs). And then again 4 kg ( 8.8lbs). But he liked me aswell back then.

December 19th we were texting and he asked me why we were just friends. I only replied with "what do you mean". And he said that he had feelings for me. I acted like I didn't because back then I tried to tell myself I didn't.

Reality was that I did have feelings. But:
-I was insecure about my body and cutting myself
-I wasn't sure about my sexuality BI or LESBIAN??? That's why I didn't want to hurt him I told myself because what would I do if I figure out I am gay. Or what if a girl comes around? He wouldn't deserve that. He didn't deserve to get hurt.
-Since I was insecure about myself I thought I didn't deserve him and I was never good enough
-Another reason or excuse for me was that I told myself "What if it was just a joke and he'd just play me because of these so called "friends" he had, who were mine aswell but we werent anymore

I had alot of them but sadly I did hurt him aswell as me but I would only feel how much later.

When I told K. that I only wanted to be friends he said it was fine and I was right because in a few months we would probably have an argument and not talk to eachother for a week or so.

After that night we stopt talking again, but that time I knew the reason. He needed time to himself. In April I felt the worst I had. Like I said I lost alot of weight back, but it was because I was starving and purging. Which I had stopped. I was fine even thought I had gained 6 Kg.

In April stopped labeling myself which was the good part. But the bad one was that I missed him too much and I figured I'd talk to him again and finally tell him.

I found out he was seeing someone and he was about to ask her to be his gf. So I didn't tell him. That night I started to purge and cut myself again. They were the deepest cuts I ever did :/

He tried to text me everyday after that or whenever I was on FaceBook. But I guess he figured out I wasn't much interested in talking to him because I only replied to every question with one or two words only. When the truth is I wanted nothing else as talking to him. But there was this girl I couldn't stop thinking about. The girl he was seeing at the time, she was beautiful, much more then I could ever be. I had no chance and I couldn't deal with it.

August was fine again. After and in school we made small talk and I found out that things with the girl didn't work out. I was ready to tell him. I was finally better than before. I had more self esteem, had a better relationship with food and wasn't cutting myself about 2months. I even told a friend of mine that I don't label myself and I am in love with him.

One day I wanted to ask him to maybe meet me on the weekend to hang out like we did before. But before I could even ask I read a status for everyone to see.

K. is in a relationship with " girls name "

I wished him good luck. That night I was crying the whole night, never falling asleep.

It was horrible and good at the same time.

Because whenever I logged in FB there were love- letters to eachother.

It broke me, but at the same time I was happy, happy because he found happyness. They even got engaged. But December 18th 2011 they broke up. One day and one year before we would have been toghter if I'd have said yes.

After that he completly changed.

He started seeing a couple of girls at the same time. Got more often drunk and things like that.

One thing before he changed was that he invited me to spend the New Year's with him. But I didn't because I remembered how we once did want to spend it together but didn't. That night when he didn't show up I was all alone.

But New Years I spend with my parents, his parents and little sister.

His mom said when we were alone that she'd wish us both happyness but sadly she could see that we weren't, then she said that, he was happy whenever he was spending time with me or he'd sit in his room she'd walk in and he'd close the page but most of the time she sees it was me he was texting.

But it was too late, he changed to much. I couldn't blame him. I was the only one who did make the biggest mistake of their life.

In March 2012 we were texting like all the time before even when he was with his girlfriend. It was the first time that we didn' stop talking after 4 Months or so. At that we laughed.

April or May he was complaining about missing a girlfriend. I asked him if I should help him with that, it was only a joke but he said yes. It hurt but I didn't let it show.

I suggested some, but he didn't like them. So I asked him what he'd look for in a girl.

I fiited everything. I texted back :" Well I don't smoke, I am shorter than you, I am not under 16, I am good at school and I am a half russian. But it's not what you're looking for, sooo"

He answerd " Why not?"

I wanted to write back "Because I love you and it'd scare you how much I do and I am Fat. I am and never will be good enough." But I only replied: " Because it'd be arrogant to say I am, myself"
He only said "If you think so. K"

I forgot to mention that he and I was driving together by car to school since February 2012.

We kept talking till June of this year normaly, but I didn't say I have feelings for him because he was seeing girls and I was still not that self-secure, because believe me those girls are beautiful.

We stopped talking because of exams but we still said hey to eachother. Then we started our summer jobs, whenever he was not working I was and when I was home he worked.

Now that School for me started we slowly talk again. He has to go to school once a week and sometimes twice. On these days we will be driving again together.

At this time he is seeing no one at least that's what he told me.
I am 18 now and he is 19. We still live in the same street. And at the moment we talk sometimes. But the reason I am insecure is about the girls who like him.( They are more beautiful than me)

That was my story for now.

I was wondering what you think.

Like do you think we have a chance? Should I tell him? If I do maybe you have some tips how? And maybe some Signals that I now that he still likes me as more than a friend? Is it selfish of me to think that after all he still likes me And gives me a chance?
What is more Important to you the looks and what friends say like "gosh shes's ugly or she's beautiful?" or personality?

I hope someone will actually answer me . But if not it is fine I guess because at least it felt good to write it all down.

Idunno (:

Idunno (:

friends and their dating problems

Love and Relationship Advice Forum

I have a friend (no really, I do) who likes this guy. I'm very happy for her, but there are some red flags. She expects me to agree with every great thing she says about him, then when she's feeling that the situation is hopeless she wants me to agree as well. This new guy she's spending time with:

1. His ex girlfriend just had a baby last month
2. He doesn't work, but he only texts her at night
3. He spends the night (she says they do not have sex)
4. His ex-girlfriend has his phone sometimes and he says that she was
upset when she read their text messages.
5. He won't give her a solid answer. He tells her time will tell.
6. He hasn't taken her out on a date.

She tells me how unbreakable she feels their bond is. She says being with him is like "looking in the mirror." I feel that this guy may be bad news, but I feel badly about it. She is the type to think that people are jealous, but this guy sounds like a creep to me. I'm kind of torn. On one hand I want to give her my honest opinion, but on the other hand I feel like she only accepts the good things. She constantly talks about him, and it's a bit annoying to keep having to find positive things about this situation. Have you ever been in a similar situation?

Very much so. My best friend and I are very united in our feelings about relationship-communication things, though... we give honest opinions, but we're still supportive. It's a hard line to toe sometimes, but that's what we do.

I've dated my fair share of creepers, and she was there for me when they'd hurt me and nodded along when I was happy with how things were. She always supported me regardless of how I was feeling about them at the time. Do I think you should just let your friend get dragged through the mud because of this guy? No. What my best friend did was she'd say something honestly to me when I was feeling good about the guy--something like "It doesn't bother you that he just had a baby with this girl, though?", because I went through that too--and even if I wanted to see him in rainbow lights, that little question from someone I love and trust was in the back of my head and ultimately played a part in my breaking up with the guy.

It depends on how much you value your friendship with this person. If you see this guy as being dangerous or something, then you definitely need to voice your opinion. If he's just obnoxious or a loser...well, there's not too much you can do about that. Be as supportive of her as you can, and once in a while in casual, relative conversation just ask an innocent question about him. That way, you'll have your "old" friend back once they break up, because she'll realize you've been there for her this whole time.

And, one day, you'll probably sit down together over margaritas and she'll say, "God, I was dumb."

My friends call me "The Love Guru" (but nothing like Mike Myers!).

For everything else, I'm just gonna give you my personal opinion, and you'll just have to like it! Just kidding, but I'll do my best.

Truth is, even if you tell her, she will still see him and defend him. Sometimes you have let people make their mistakes, so they can learn from them. Either way she is not going to listen. But as a true friend I would voice my opinion about it.
You are good friend to her, so I think u should tell her about him and tell her forget him cuz he is not for truestable man..
