How should I handle the situation with this girl?

Love and Relationship Advice Forum

So, there is this girl I've known for a long time and we just started hanging out again lately. The problem is she's the ex of one of my friends and I'm the ex of her best friend (She dumped my friend and I got dumped by her best friend) (2-3 years ago). One thing leading to another, on a night involving alcohol, she invites me to her house and we start making out for a while. Before things go any further, she stops me and tell me she needs time to think about it, that she can't do this to her best friend, that she doesn't want this to be a one night stand, to which I answered that I was ready for all that. Since that night last week, she barely texts me anymore when she used to text me easily 3-4 days a week and when she answers my rare texts (1 or 2 this week), she keeps the answers short and without any opening for a conversation. She also seems to wait around 1-2 hours before answering while I know she has her phone on her all the time. I wasn't sure how I felt about the whole thing at first but I kinda like the girl and I need advice on how to go with this.
Thank you very much in advance for your answers!
Women are often loyal to their best friends so she is in a difficult situation - now wonder she avoids contacting you - she probably doesn't know what to do. But the past really should be the past and it's her friend who left you, not the other way around. Don't text her, I think you should talk to her in person. Tell her you really care about her.

Why He Keeps You Waiting By The Phone & How To Handle It [EXPERT]

Why He Keeps You Waiting By The Phone & How To Handle It [EXPERT] Think before you text! Before you get impatient and call him, consider this advice.

Has this ever happened to you? You meet a new guy for coffee and have a great first date. He was easy to talk to, had a good sense of humor and had good answers to your questions. You feel tentatively positive. The week goes by. He texts once or twice, but does not ask about the weekend.

Then, he finally calls you, on Friday, to talk about the weekend. "Are you free tonight?" he asks. Well, you purposely left the weekend open hoping he would call. So you say, "Yes". You go out and have another great date. It is so nice to talk to a man who you can have a great conversation. You smile, laugh and share similar ideas about life. Single? Why You're Crazy Not To Try Online Dating [EXPERT]

Then, you don't hear from him all week, except for some texting. This time, you can't take it. You want to know what is going to happen for the weekend. You can't stand this waiting game. You assume, of course, you will have a date.

So, you decide to be bold and just call him. What's the big deal, right? This is 2012. When he answers, he seems happy to hear from you. When you ask about the weekend, he says he hasn't given it much thought. You tell him you are trying to make plans, so you need to know when he wants to get together. The good news is he suggests going out on Saturday night.

You have another great date. This relationship is going great and you have some momentum. The next week ticks by with a few fun texts, but not much more. Thursday arrives and you start wondering, "What the heck? Is he not going to plan ahead, again? Should I call him? Why is he acting like this, especially when we have such a good time together?" How To Turn Off A Man On Your First Date [EXPERT]

So, why doesn't he call sooner? Good question. As a dating coach for 10 years, I have some answers about why he doesn't call that might help clear things up. This dating advice offers possible reasons and not all of them will likely apply. But, you will get the idea.

1. He's just not that into you ... as Greg Behrendt says in his book by the same name. This simple answer cuts deep, but has a great deal of validity. While you and your date may have a great time, it doesn't mean the same thing to him as it does to you.

2. He's not in relationship mode. While he certainly enjoys your company, he is more relaxed about seeing you.

Hmm, How to Handle This Awkward Friend Moment?

Ben and I met up with Ursula and Mitchell at a Mexican bar/restaurant last night for Cinco de Mayo, and while it started out fun, it ended weird.

I was the last to arrive. Ursula was wearing a sombrero and shaking maracas, of course, and Ben and Mitchell were watching her in amusement.

“Doing your part to perpetuate the stereotype of the ethnically-insensitive American, I see,” I said, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Everyone laughed.

“I think it’s a good look for me, to tell you the truth,” she said. “I’m workin’ it.”

“Ursula is the only person who looks at herself through beer goggles,” Mitchell said with a smile.

“Touché,” Ursula said. “Wait, how do you say ‘touché’ in Spanish?”

We laughed, and Ursula and I sat down at the booth. Ben ordered a margarita for me, a second for him and Mitchell, and a third for Ursula.

“How about some food?” I suggested.

We ordered a bunch of appetizers, and then Ursula announced she was going to the bathroom.

“Come with me, K.,” she said.

I dutifully followed her, and when we got into the bathroom, she gave me a long, somewhat painful hug.

“I’m so happy for you guys!” she exclaimed. “He kept asking me for advice, and I didn’t know what to tell him. I wish I had known about the ring. It all would have made so much sense if I’d known that. You should have told me!”

“Thanks so much,” I said. “I didn’t want you to get stuck in the middle, though. It would have been sticky if Ben had really changed his mind.”

“I guess,” she said.

Over the next couple of hours, we had some drinks, chatted and laughed. Then the mood suddenly changed, when Ursula decided to order a fourth margarita.

“Four?” Mitchell asked. “Really, Ursula? You have to work in the morning.”

“Yes, Mitchell, I am having a fourth margarita. I’m a grown woman. You don’t have to like my decisions, but you do have to respect them.”

“Decisions often have consequences, Ursula,” Mitchell said. “Just sayin’.”

Clearly Mitchell and Ursula weren’t talking about having a fourth margarita anymore. The mood got tense and stayed that way, and Ben and I decided to leave shortly thereafter.

“Do you know what that was all about?” I asked on the way back to his place.

“I have no idea,” he said. “And I’m not sure I want to know.”
