The Best (& Worst!) Foodie Date Ideas

Foodie Date Ideas From A Dating Coach A food festival or fair is a creative way to get to know someone better. Don't let your dining date turn into a disaster — follow this matchmaker's advice.

The dinner date has a long history of being the most popular activity in the early stages of courtship. However, when the recession hit, singles started getting more casual and creative. What's new on the dating scene? For starters, the coffee or green juice date suddenly became appealing and happy hour made men's wallets extra happy. But if you're still excited to get out and enjoy the culinary delights that your city has to offer, there are plenty of choices that will fill your belly, but won't break your bank.

Most cities have food festivals, offering everything from a taste of local fare to specifically-themed ethnic food. They're always fun, with lots to see and do as you wind your way around, mingling and trying your city's delicacies. The people-watching at food festivals is great, as well — and as a bonus, it makes for fun conversation.

More from YourTango: Are Married Women Happier Than Single Ladies?

Oktoberfest is a great autumn date, and you no longer have to travel to Germany to experience it! Many towns and cities now offer a local version of the extravaganza. It's an all-day celebration of the best German beers, foods and entertainment; bring your appetite and an adventurous spirit.

And then, of course, there is the big dog: the traditional dinner at a posh restaurant as you sit across from one another, assessing if there is enough chemistry to get to date number two. Good wine, fancy food and sexy lighting — there's a lot to love about the classic dinner date.

As a matchmaker I encourage my clients to try all sorts of different dates, but food always seems to be everyone's go-to. I also get the inside scoop, which means detailed feedback after each of my clients' dating adventures. The ladies in my service are being wined and dined at the best restaurants in Los Angeles, which is a treat anyone would love. But here's a secret: sometimes, they get a bit carried away.

One of my clients, John, was telling me about a first date he went on with a woman; he took her to an expensive steakhouse in Beverly Hills. Things were going fine and she was a great conversationalist. At the end of the meal, she told the waiter that she would like to order one more petite filet, to take home to her cat.  His jaw dropped to his chest, and he said, "Oh, no, no, no! I don't think that is a good idea!"

Her response? "But it's for my cat!"

He stated firmly, "I am not on a date with your cat!" Yikes.

Another client, Daniel, flew Christine to San Francisco for a romantic dinner in his private plane. Daniel was eager to impress her with his pilot skills and imaginative date. They were having an amazing time, but at the end of the evening, before the check arrived, Christine whipped out the wine list and ordered several bottles "to go" for herself on Daniel's dime. Needless to say, that was her last flight!

Matching Southern California women has proven to be quite an experience. They are getting more and more into the raw food and juicing culture. As such, yoga, mediation, spiritual retreats, colonics and angel card readings are all topics of high priority for many SoCal ladies. Some, needless to say, make for better dates than others.

Gary called me the other day telling me that as a litigator with his own law firm, he was quite impressed at his date's ability to thoroughly cross-examine the poor waiter on whether their vegetables were GMO (genetically modified) or not. The waiter was flummoxed and tongue-tied as she grilled him over and over to the point of embarrassment. He finally replied, "Miss, all I know is that our vegetables are fresh and no one has gotten sick."

Even a date as quirky and fun as attending a restaurant supply convention can go south. Sarah accompanied James to a convention that was held in a hotel in Miami. While he was in a meeting that was scheduled to last for a few hours, she went to the bar to wait for him. When he finished, he went looking for her and found out from the staff that she had gotten so drunk at the bar she was unable to walk. They had to wheel her out on a luggage rack. Quite a surprise!

So what can we learn from these (admittedly hilarious) tales of food and love gone wrong? For starters, approach a dining date with class, grace and confidence. Food is one of the best vehicles for connection to another person, and it should be easy, fun and no-pressure. You don't have to be a high-flyer to have a delicious date, though. Consider thinking outside the box with a creative date like a festival or walking tour of your city's best fare. Don't take yourself too seriously (juicers, we're looking at you!) And, above all, definitely do not order a steak for your cat!

25 Summer Date Night Ideas That Won't Break The Bank

ASK YOURTANGO MORE QUESTIONS CELEBRITY LOVE BLOG Love: What's Kristen Bell Saying About Her Wedding Now? What's Kristen Bell Saying About Her Wedding ... The Author Of 'He's Just Not That Into You' Saves Your Sex Life The Author Of 'He's Just Not That Into You' ...
By Samantha Escobar

Cheap Date Night Ideas: 25 Dates That Won't Break The Bank One idea? Hit up the ice cream truck together. Step up and step outside for some fun summer dates!

With the last weeks of summer ahead of us, it's important to make the most of the sunshine and warm weather.

If you and your partner have yet to experience all this season has to offer romantically, you're missing out.

It's time to step up and step outside for some fun summer dates, from sightseeing to grabbing snowcones.

1. Sightsee
Even if you've been in your city for years, even decades, it you can still bust out the disposable cameras and do some tourist-y things together. From wax museums to famous landmarks from history, finding out more about your town as a team can be exciting and fresh.

2. Grab A Snowcone
Ice cream and froyo are wonderful, but sometimes, you just need something a little less creamy and a little more hydrating. Snag a snowcone with mango or peach juice — and perhaps a bit of tequila — to cool down with this sweet treat.

breitbart.com

3. Have A Dessert Party
For a simple, sweet and cheap date, sample several kinds of desserts together from home. Doing a real sampling like this costs quite a bit, so improvise to fit your budget: rather than grabbing fancy pastries for $5 each at a super well-known bakery, gamble on a smaller, newer place that may have better deals and better treats. Who knows? You might just find your new favorite spot in town together.

4. Read To Kids
Sounds silly to do as a date, I know, but reading to kids can be a really fun way to bond, volunteer and enjoy the library's air conditioning (okay, that last one is a little selfish but hey, the summer's hot!).

5. Have A Nostalgic Picnic
Eating outside is always fun, but it's also a little too easy. This time, pick a theme such as "the 90s" and select snacks that remind you of that time period. It's an excuse to wear tie-front crop tops and it's a fun twist on a classic idea that's sure to get your conversation going.

6. Stargaze
Super classic and perhaps a little cliche, but to me, stargazing is one of the most romantic and calming activities to do with another person. Pick a place far from light pollution, should you live in a city, and put a blanket down so you two can lie down and stare up together. Feel free to look up constellations beforehand so you'll both be able to point out the ones you see, then choose favorites.

7. Pro Sports Matches
Sure, you might have to watch from some nosebleed seats, but sharing a hot dog, large soda and popcorn while watching a non-championship game of some sort can be a surprisingly inexpensive date night.

8. Go To An Open Mic
Seeing fresh up-and-comers sing, play and read to an audience can be enthralling, so why not go as a duo and enjoy the experience together? Should either or both of you feel the inclination, you can probably get up on stage eventually and share your talents with the room!

9. Breakfast In Bed
Who doesn't love to be pampered? On a day that both of you have off, take some time to make breakfast together, then eat it in bed while watching some nostalgic cartoons or a movie you both love.

10. Beer Festivals
Are both of you total brew snobs (or at least just love to pour yourself a cold glass together while relaxing)? Check out beerfestivals.org for info on all kinds of beer fests where you can go, sample tons of special varieties and learn more about the brands straight from their makers.

11. Snag Ice Cream From A Truck
Pretend you two are back in elementary school when chasing after the ice cream man was how you spent your days. Whether you choose a firecracker popsicle or a sherbet Spiderman with gumball eyes, you two can enjoy feeling like kids again.

12. Play Frisbee
Find a park nearby and toss a frisbee around. It's a great way to get some Vitamin D, stay active and have a nice time playing around in the sun.

13. Take An Art Class
Learning to paint or do pottery or draw naked people is always an interesting option when it comes to bettering your life and sharpening your creative senses, but doing it together? Even more fun, because you can help one another and get to spend time as a team.

14. Go Swimming
Who doesn't love taking a dip when it's crazy hot outside? Find a local public pool, grab your cutest swimsuit and cool off together. You can even wake up early and have a morning swim if you want to miss the rush!

15. Shoot Some Hoops
Even if you're both awful at basketball, shooting some baskets together is strangely fun, provided neither of you are particularly competitive. It’s a healthy kind of date that won't break your budget, making it perfect for couples who want to get active without signing up for expensive gyms together.

16. Street Fairs
In many cities and towns throughout the summer, there are street fairs full of interesting people, unique products and various types of cuisine you might never have tried otherwise.

17. Teach Each Other Skills
Do you know how to drive manual transmission? Does he or she know how to do origami extremely well? Teaching one another how to do a particular skill you've never known how to do can be really fun and super useful later on.

18. Go Biking
Taking a fun bike ride together through parks, the city streets or even downhill (as long as you're really good at it, of course) can be a wonderful way to get to know your city together on the cheap.

19. Go To An All-Night Film Fest
Pick a theme, such as "zombies" or "cult favorites," and find a movie festival that fits into it. Grab some snacks, take your seats and hold hands while you watch your new favorite films together (or, at the very least, your new favorite films to make fun of).

20. Dollar Store Grab Bags
Take $10, go in a dollar store and go wild. The only catch? You've gotta buy stuff for each other. When you leave, sit down on a bench and share your presents!

21. Go Dancing
Ever learn to salsa? You can either go out and wing it, should you be braver than I, or take a class and then go out. Many classes' fees include entry to a club later so you two can show off your newfound skills!

22. Groom Together
This may sound super silly, but doing some beauty-related processes together can be really fun. A cooling face mask that you apply together can be really relaxing in the summer, or perhaps trading 15-minute warm oil massages on your back or tired feet could help you both calm down after a long summer work week.

23. Make Crafts
Are both of you serious DIY-enthusiasts? If so, grab some supplies and set it work on a new project together. If you two live together, this can be even more useful and entertaining since you'll both be able to enjoy the results. Plus, it'll be a sentimental piece of craftsmanship you'll always treasure.

24. See A Show In The Park
Local parks have all kinds of shows during the summer. Whether you're into theater, music or poetry, you're sure to find something that both of you will be able to sit back and watch together.

25. Carnivals
I saved this for last because it is my absolute favorite thing to do in the summer as a romantic date night. Playing carnival games, eating fried food and, of course, sharing a kiss while riding the ferris wheel together? It's just about the most lovely date idea I can think of.

date night ideas for couples who love to cook Cook up a storm in the kitchen. Bon appétit! Here are the most stimulating date night ideas for foodies.

Why should you have your next hot date night in the kitchen? Because the next best thing to a full-body orgasm is seeing, smelling and eating something that ignites our taste buds, exceeds our imagination and plays with our senses. Yes, food is unquestionably the most powerful aphrodisiac known to mankind and absolutely the way to your partner's heart.

The great news is that having different taste buds and food preferences doesn't change this truth. If you prefer hamburgers and beer to foie gras, then the perfect burger with a perfectly-chilled beer is waiting just for you. No matter what food you prefer, the gift of culinary pleasure, especially when it comes from your sweetheart, will send your libido up a dozen notches. Need more convincing or directions? I've listed five fun, food-related date night ideas for couples who love to eat and cook. These are in order from nice to naughty, so don't jump ahead! Think of it as a "culinary foreplay."

1. Invite the neighbors for a potluck group date. Progressive dinners have been around forever. Many of us work so hard we've become disconnected from our communities. And when we do have time for ourselves, there's so much pressure on a couple to entertain each other. Take the load off. Gather five to 15 couples, pick a few homes within walking distance (it's good to walk so you don't need a designated driver) and make each stop a course in the dinner. Each couple can cook one of the courses. It's important to select something that can be prepped ahead of time and served or heated easily. You want to enjoy the evening with your sweetheart and friends, and not worry about cleaning up too much. The best part is, you'll get acknowledgement for your creation combined with laughter and love.

2. Shop a farmers' market. One of the most exciting things about preparing food together is the joy of co-creation. A great place to start is the local farmers' market. Grab a canvas grocery bag and walk through the market picking your favorite fresh, locally-grown items. Consider making a soup, an amazing salad, or grilled vegetables to go with your entrée. Some markets sell grass-feed beef and fresh-caught seafood—it's your choice. Be sure to grab the most yummy-looking hand-crafted dessert to finish the evening. Keep reading...

9 Outdoor Date Ideas

couple gardening Gardening is a great excuse to get outside with your partner. Ditch the sweatpants and Netflix. Now that Spring is in the air, try these fresh date ideas!

Fleece sweatpants and your Netflix queue may make for a perfect date night during winter, but now that spring is in the air, it's time for some fresh new date ideas. On your next date night (or day!), why not try one of these outdoor options?

1. Work Up A Sweat
No, we don't mean getting frisky in the great outdoors … okay, we mean that too — but there's another way to get your hearts racing outside. Hit the park for a romantic hike or grab your bikes for a scenic ride. You'll release feel-good endorphins together and work on your bikini bods together. Matching six-packs!

More from YourTango: 10 Things You Should Never Lie To Him About

2. Spring Break
It's not just for college students anymore — hit the beach destination for some much-needed relaxation (and romance). If you don't have the time or funds to go anywhere exotic, look up long weekend trips an hour or two away from home. You don't have to travel far to get the benefits of getting away from it all.

3. Play Tourist
There's no better time to get outside and do all of the touristy things you never make time to do. Hit the museums, visit the highest skyscraper or biggest ball of yarn (or whatever the equivalent is in your city), stroll through the botanical garden and make some furry friends at the zoo.

4. Work On Your Green Thumbs
Gardening is a great excuse to get outside — and, if you're planting your own fruits and vegetables, a great excuse to get you both eating healthier too.

5. In With The New
Pick an activity that's new to both of you, and spend the season working on it together. Take rock-climbing classes, train for a half-marathon together, or sign up for a dance class. You'll bond over being beginners and push each other to get better. Plus, a recent study even showers that adding an element of surprise into a relationship can trigger the same emotional state you were both in when you first met, getting back all those lovey-dovey feelings.

6. Take 'Em Out To The Ball Game
And do as the song says and buy 'em some peanuts and cracker jack. Even if you're not a baseball fan, half of the fun is spending the day outside, sitting in the stands with stadium snacks and a crowd of very, very excited people.

7. BBQ For Two
Take picnic-ing to the next level. Many parks allow barbecuing as long as you clean up after yourself, so who says you have to stick to cucumber sandwiches on your picnic date? Bring a blanket, a couple of books, and some meat and/or veggies, and show each other what you can do on the grill. Keep reading ...

5 Mad Men-Inspired Date Night Ideas

mad men Why not travel back to the 1960s for date night? Live on the wild side for a night with these Don Draper-esque date ideas.

Okay, so we all know the web loves Mad Men actor Jon Hamm's penis a little too much. It's farcically large and I, for one, am sick of hearing about it. But apparently people are still watching the actual show too! Season 6 opened to 3.4 million viewers earlier this month, and many fans have strong opinions about the long-running series, a few of them disappointed with aspects of the new season. During a Mad Men panel event at the Paley Media Center in Manhattan on Tuesday night, show creator Matthew Weiner even told fans to just "sit back and enjoy where we're going."

Some of the gripes Weiner said fans have are: "There's not enough agency advertising. There's too much advertising. There's not enough Betty. There's too much Betty. Who is Megan? Why isn't there more Megan?" Basically, people need to simmer down and just watch the show.

You can't please everyone, but one thing we can agree on is that we're collectively fascinated with the vices of that era: drinking in the office, smoking like a chimney, illicit affairs. And the clothes are just so tailored and stylish — I personally liked the '50s styles more, but we can all agree that Joan Holloway is still rocking it.

5 Vacation Ideas For Cash-Strapped Couples [EXPERT]

couple camping hiking backpacks You don't have to travel far; you just have to travel together. Want to reignite the sexual fire in your relationship? It may be time to hit the road.

Want to reignite the sexual fire in your relationship? It may be time to hit the road. A survey by the U.S. Travel Association found a weekend vacation is more likely to spark romance in a relationship than giving a material gift. Of the 1,100 American adults surveyed, 72 percent reported that traveling improves their sex life and strengthens their romantic relationship. Yet, the New York Times bestselling book The Normal Bar reports that 75% of all American couples have never taken a romantic vacation.

It is easy to understand the benefits of a week-long vacation in a romantic beach villa. But you don't have to travel so far from home or spend a lot of money to reap the romantic benefits of traveling together. Here are five ideas for a simple weekend getaway that will offer all the sexual benefits of an exotic vacation — without busting your bank account. For each romantic getaway idea, we've included ideas to turn up the heat for an unforgettable weekend.

More from YourTango: How To Please Your Man - In Bed and In Life! [EXPERT]

1. Take a spontaneous roadtrip. One of the biggest romantic benefits of traveling together comes from the surplus of time together. A vacation allows you to talk, connect and rediscover your love for one another. A roadtrip is an ideal scenario for enjoying long conversations with your lover while exploring the world together.

Pick a destination no more than two or three hours away from home. A few hours in the car can be great fun, any longer can start to feel tedious. Look for a small town in your region with something special to offer: a great restaurant, a historic site, a winery or brewery or an artisan workshop that offers tours.

Take the opportunity to learn something new together by printing out the Wikipedia article about your destination and reading it out loud as you drive. Allow the road trip to help you feel free spirited. Crank up the radio, stock up on fun car snacks and open the windows wide. Amp up the erotic excitement by pulling over on a secluded road and making out (or more!) in the backseat of your car.

2. Find your muse. Seeing beautiful sites is one of the benefits of a romantic getaway. You don't have to travel far to get inspired by beautiful art. Most regions have a few towns that are known for art galleries or perhaps a city near you has an art museum. Dress up in your best clothes and spend the afternoon wandering the galleries together. Take the time to discuss art that catches your eye and be specific about what you find inspiring.

Taking the time to learn what you both find beautiful and inspiring will inspire you to see the beauty in one another. Consider buying a small piece of art for your home — there are often very talented artists selling original works on the streets outside of museums.

More from YourTango: How To Activate Your Sensuality [EXPERT]

Also stop into the museum store or a local art supply store and buy a paintbrush. When you get home, treat your lover's body like a work of art. Dip the paintbrush in warm water and run it up and down their body, creating a featherlight caress and bringing your lover's entire body to attention! Follow this full body warm up with slow, sensual lovemaking. Keep reading ...

Second Date Ideas: How To Make It As Amazing As The First

Second Date Ideas What's your go-to second date? Avoid the second-date slump with these 6 ideas.

So he called you back? This means that you both hit it off from that first nerve-racking hello on until that first kiss at the end of the night. And despite those few awkward pauses, you must have done something right on that first date, because now you're meeting him again this weekend for a second.

More from YourTango: Disney's Gay Marriage: The Right Way To Do A Fairytale Wedding

The first date is all about making a fun, sexy first impression, but the second date is all about making that impression last. Usually, by this point, you can decide whether your date is just going to fizzle out as another fling or he may be the match you've been looking for.

Here are six date ideas to survive the second-date slump and ensure a third date, a fourth date, a fifth date …

1. Browse A Local Farmers' Market
Stop by your local farmers' market and stroll through row upon row of vendors and browse the season's bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables, all ripe for the taking. When the weather's warmer, you can buy yourselves a box of sweet strawberries to dip in a chocolate fondue later (yum) or if there's a nip in the air, pick out some organic veggies to bring back to your place and cook up in a tasty stew for two! You'll have fun getting to know each other's culinary tastes and be able to share recipes. Not to mention, it's a good way to find out if he or she has any food allergies.

2. Get Your Game Face On At The Arcade
Now that you've gotten over that first-date awkwardness, you can act a little silly without coming off as too immature. And what's the best way to bring out the inner-child in you? Grab a bag of quarters and go to the arcade together! You can impress your date by showing off your Donkey Kong skills and he can show you how to properly hold the toy gun in a game of Duck Hunt (yes, we know that you already know how … wink, wink). You can even try one of those cheesy matchmaking games to see how compatible you are. But make sure not to get too competitive with your date or you might as well say, "game over."

3. Rock Out To A Concert Of A Local Band Neither Of You Know
When you asked about tastes in music on your first date, he learned that you love R&B, and you learned that he loves rock n' roll. So what if you can't enjoy the same genre of music? Why not take in something else new altogether? Even if the band sucks, that's something you can both agree upon (and laugh about).

4. Climb A Mountain
Strap on your hiking boots, grab your backpacks and trek it outdoors for a day.
