Approaching in Japanese High School.?

So I am doing this exchange program in Japan for a year in High school. I'm 17 and have already lived in Japan because part of my family is Japanese so I have some cultural and language background. There's this girl in my class who I found very cute since the beginning, but I didn't give it much of a thought because I just don't want to approach every lady I find cute (that would be exhausting). In the early days this friend of mine text messaged me by saying what do you think of Homura? (I have changed the name to keep the lady's privacy) I told him I found her cute but that's it. I didn't give it much of a thought, probably Homura was the crush of my friend and he wanted to know what I thought of his crush (at least that's what I thought).

Around 3 weeks ago I shared a few words with Homura after calligraphy class. She helped me with packing up everything so I found that very nice of her. That day my friend text messaged me again by saying that Homura was really happy that she got the chance to speak with me. Since then I have been thinking more and more about her. She is a bit shy and almost only speaks to other ladies so approaching her is difficult. Since that day I have tried to share a few words with her when I had the chance to do so, for example today we had three difficult exams and approached her by saying how did they go? I text messaged my friend again and found out that he has no interest whatsoever in Homura and that he is just one of her mail friends.

The other day she waved me bye bye on the way home, I felt very special. I know many men and ladies will find this annoying, going as slow as a snail. Many guys have told me to get her mail and just text message her inviting her to go together to drink or something. But I don't think that would work. All ladies are not attracted by the same things, each women is different and think in a whole different way. I think Homura is a person who likes to take things slowly and doesn't want to feel overly overwhelmed. The thing is she sometimes answers to my approaches like she would to any other guy, what does this mean? Do you think she is interested in me? If so, when do you think I should ask her out?

It's hard to tell from the description if she is interested or not... the only way you will find out is if you ask her out.

Ask her out for something non-threatening like lunch and see how it goes.
